Robert Binyon

Senior Board Advisor

Robert Binyon is a seasoned leader in impact investing and private sector SME investments in emerging markets and currently serves as a Senior Board Advisor to NextBold Capital.

Alongside those responsibilities, he also serves, amongst others, as the Chairman of Khushhali Bank in Pakistan, Chairman of Lakeshore Capital in Thailand, and Deputy Chairman of Monk Fruit Corporation in China.

With a career spanning over five decades, Robert began his career at Morgan Grenfell in London, being appointed to the Board in 1985 and taking a lead on their Asian operations from 1986 to 1991 from Japan.

He then joined the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) – now the British International Investment Corporation, in 1994.

There, he first led the Financial Markets Division, overseeing private equity and fund investments globally, and later took over CDC operations for Asia Pacific. In this capacity, Robert seeded numerous private equity funds in emerging economies and oversaw capital deployment across the world with high focus on SME investments. It was in this capacity he assumed, amongst others, Chairmanship of a number of funds for Aureos Capital, prior to its acquisition by the Abraaj Group.

Robert’s extensive experience since includes chairing funds and companies across Asia, as well as serving as a director for institutions in Africa and India.

An alumnus of Christ Church, University of Oxford, Robert’s dedication to fostering sustainable growth in emerging markets continues to shape his work today.
